Alyssa continues to be a happy little baby. And she sure is a charmer. She has started to wave at everyone who passes by. So we often have kids and teenagers, delivery men, hawkers, and basically anyone, just stopping by to say hello to her.

She’s standing steadily now, but hasn’t shown much inclination to cruise or walk. I think it’s because I carry her around most of the time. I was thinking about it and realised that she barely gets any playground time compared to the boys, for two reasons. First, we are usually running around settling the boys or running errands. Second, the playgrounds at our new place are so hot in the day time! At our old house the playground was shady in the afternoon so I often brought Asher and Ellery to play there, even before they could walk. It’s a bit of a pity she hasn’t had that opportunity.

She’s got 3 teeth now! But she thinks she has a full set and wants to eat everything. I’m really quite amazed at how the human body develops. How is it that our teeth all end up sticking out about the same amount, but yet they can sprout one at a time?

I don’t know where her food goes. She eats, but doesn’t get heavier. She just gets taller and stays the same weight. She’s not even 8kg! But as she appears happy I think she’s ok.

She is starting to vocalise more, but still not that many words. I wonder if in our family the stereotypes will be turned on its head. Normally girls speak faster than boys, but Asher and Ellery both were quite vocal from young. She’s seems to be less so. And normally boys are more active than girls, but she seems to be more so! She is a real monkey, I tell you. Though I suspect she inherited that from me (my Mum told me I’ve climbed out of my cot before…).

Time flies, and suddenly you are almost 1 year old! I can’t believe it.

That's how much you respect Je M'appelle now.

Had been waiting anxiously this whole month for Alyssa’s 3rd month check-up to see if she has gained weight since the last check. She certainly felt heavier but as our weighing scale at home went kaput, I had no idea what her current weight was.

Well, the verdict is in. She’s now 5.67kg (put on about 1.2kg) and is just under the 50th percentile in weight. Not ideal weight gain, but passable. She’s tall though, in the 90th percentile.

The doc said that she can start on solids from the 4th month onward as that’s the new recommendation. Previously it was 6 months. I’m still undecided. The doc seemed to imply that the study about the positive effects on reducing allergies in children by starting them early on solids may apply mainly to kids of parents who have allergies. Neither Jon nor I have allergies though. None that we know of anyway.

So will think about it.

When Asher was born, he was given a cow soft toy we called ‘Niu Niu’ and I used that to show how much he was growing.  When Ellery was born, he too was given a soft toy.  His was an elephant with owl prints, so we called it ‘Eleowl‘ and used it to track his growth too.

Alyssa wasn’t given any soft toy, but we already have so many at home, and especially so since I still have my old box of soft toys that my Mum kept all these years.  Growing up, one of my favourite toys was a pink cuddly bear that we named ‘Je M’appelle’.  For those who speak French, you’ll realise it means “my name is / I am called”.  You see…back when I was a little girl I had no idea what those words meant.  It was on the label stuck to the bear’s ear, and it sounded nice, so we just named it that! :)  Yes, showing my absolute ignorance then.  So my bear’s name is “my name is” :))

Anywayyyy…

I thought that rather than buying another soft toy it would be quite sweet to pass on one of my favourites to Alyssa.  Maybe she will love Je M’appelle as much as I did.

So here is her comparison!
